Dear Primary
Leader,
In 1996, my
Stake asked me to supply them with charms for the brand new Primary
Achievement Days Program. What started out with just my stake has
turned into many wards and stakes across the United States, just by
word-of-mouth. I felt a need and desire to make this original program
better. So in an effort to do this, I have put this new program
together. I want you to know that my only goal here is to provide a
service that seems to be a real need, at least here in the United States,
and possibly other countries as well.
When I started
out, I wanted to be sure that I wasn't doing anything that would go against
Church policy. So I started out with the General Primary Presidency in
Salt Lake. The letter that I received back from Sister Menlove's
Administrative Assistant reads as follows:
"Thank you for
sharing your award program for Achievement Days. The plan you have
implemented to recognize achievements obviously has great appeal to the
girls and has contributed much to the success of the achievement day
program. We are pleased it works so well for you and that you have
been able to help others.
The guidelines
of the Achievement Days program and how recognition is given are
intentionally flexible to allow the program to be implemented worldwide
according to economic and cultural differences. The Primary presidency
always looks for ways to improve Primary programs and continues to consider
ideas for an award that meets the criteria for the worldwide Church, but at
the present time, the decision of how recognition will be given remains with
each unit.
I then went to my
Bishop, and he was also supportive of this program. I feel that I have been
led by the spirit to create and share this program with you. The council
received from the General Primary Presidency regarding the awards for the
Primary Achievement Days Program is to keep the awards very simple and
inexpensive, allowing the activities themselves to be the reward. This was
my goal in the creation of this program. Please note this program is only a
resource, and a way to show recognition for their accomplishments as they
progress through their four years in the program.
Your main resource and inspiration should come from
prayerfully consulting with our Heavenly Father and asking what He would
have you do.
I would love to be of assistance to you in any way!
I feel the Achievement Days Program is one of the best callings in the
Church!
Love, Leslie
